ForTime Timer

ForTime is a free workout timer app for iOS and Android made by Knurl Fitness. It includes EMOM, Interval, Tabata, For Time, Equal Work-Rest, Timed Rest, and Fight Gone Bad timers, and is built for CrossFit, HIIT, functional fitness, bodybuilding, and personal training.

Yes, the app is free. We have no plans on charging for the app. We make money by selling other fitness products, services and accessories (coming soon).

This is a known limitation of the first release of the ForTime Timer app. We're working on an update that will ensure that the timers will run in the background.

Why does this matter?

If you're using the timer to time a workout, you may want to use other apps on your phone while the timer rest period is running (if your workout has rest periods). Currently, if you switch to another app, the timer will stop ticking. When you resume your session it will resume ticking. We're working on an update that will allow the timer to run in the background so you can use other apps while the timer is running.

The timer should run in the background so you can reply to a text, check your email, or use other apps while the timer is running. When a rest period is over you should still hear the beeps even if the timer is not in the foreground.

Our timer app uses audio ducking to keep your background music playing while also sounding beeps at 3, 2, 1, etc seconds. This process needs at least 5 seconds to work properly. If the timer is set for less than 5 seconds, there isn't enough time for the audio ducking system to adjust, which can cause the beeps to play incorrectly or not at all. To ensure all sounds play as intended, please set your H1 or H2 timers for 5 seconds or more.

Wait. What? What is audio ducking?

Audio ducking is a technique that automatically lowers the volume of one audio source when another audio source is playing. It's like having a smart volume control that gives priority to certain sounds. When a primary audio source (like our beeps) starts playing, the system automatically reduces the volume of secondary audio (like background music). Once the primary audio stops, the secondary audio returns to its original volume.

You can specify if you want the value to count up or count down by pressing the arrows button in the bottom left of the timer configuration.

Multiple ways. An AMRAP can be one round, or multiple rounds.

For example, if you want to do a 10 minute AMRAP, set your H1 timer for 10 minutes.

If you wanted to do an AMRAP with 5 rounds of 3 minutes with 1 minute of rest you'd set H1 to 3 minutes, H2 to 1 minute, and set the RD to 5.

You can specify if you want the value to count up or count down by pressing the arrows button in the bottom left of the timer configuration.
